"...For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse." *

Poison ivy. In his ear.
Ask me how.
How, you say?
*I*? Have no fucking clue.
Neither does he, or H.
Best we can figure, he was at the playground with some friends after hockey practice, and they were running around in the bushes.
So he’s on prednisone, which is EXACTLY what you want an impossible six-year-old-who-is-already-acting-like-a-two-year-old to be taking for the next week.
But his ear looks better, and he went to school today. (I have been assured he is NOT contagious.)
Which is good, because if he didn’t go to school, I may have been forced to put him in the dog crate for the day.
(I am KIDDING. Do NOT call CYS. (Maybe the SPCA but not CYS.) But he has been impossible.)

Now, the dog, which is what I know you all really care about, has an ear infection. Also on steroids and anti-inflammatories, and we must swab his ears with this gunk every other day till it clears up. Fuck me. But at least the new baby has not arrived yet.
‘cause remember when the cat got hit by a car right after Terzo was born?
That is exactly where I would be with the dog and his ear infection.
But no one cared about the cat. Why is that?
I received zip, zero, NO emails about the plan to just let the cat die.
Do rabid cat lovers not read blogs?
Inquiring minds want to know.
I want to know.

I also want to get my hair cut.
And lie around eating cannoli from the Italian deli, and reading novels.

Oh well.
People in hell want ice water, as my mother used to compassionately point out.
Speaking of...
(Hell? My mother? Both? Who knows?)
It’s been nine years.
Seems like yesterday in some respects, and eons ago in others.

Primo got poison ivy in his ear? I'm kind of amazed although I shouldn't be given that I do know what kids can get up to. Poor thing.

No one cared because cats suck. That's why.

And I don't care about the dog either, if that helps.

Poison ivy in the ear sounds highly unpleasant. But there are worse places to get it. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.

Boy, am I cranky or WHAT? Heh. Sorry. It didn't sound that bad when I wrote it.

I didn't read your blog back then. I would have been very upset. In fact, I'm upset now.

I can leave a comment? Yay!

I'm a cat lover, but I try my best not to leave mean comments on blogs. I wasn't reading your blog back then, and I'm not going to go through your archives to read it now. I know how hard it is to take care of a new baby and a very sick cat. I've done both but not at the same time.

I hope everybody feels better soon.

I definately advocate cutting your hair and eating bon bons. Because I have no advice about poison ivy, dogs, children, or cats.

But bon bons, yes, I am a rabit bon bon lover. Oops, I meant cannoli. I haven't been to the Italian Deli in AGES. I need to go.

Hockey season starts tomorrow--will that help things at home?

So, I've been reading your blog since before the cat got hit by a car. But that is a mean cat, that you don't like, that doesn't like you, and isn't she ill-behaved too? Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but that's what I recall as any reasoning that may have been involved with the cat situation. I believe that pets are nice, but that if its not working out, its in everyone's best interest to find a way to make it work out. Sometimes, that means you find a new home for the animal, or put in the time to train it, or (god forbid, some people would say) putting the sick and pained animal down.

Ok... onto the funny part... Poison Ivy? In his ear? Ick! I remember when my sister was on prednisone at that age (asthma). I'm so sorry. Have you introduced him to the Hardy Boys yet?

Can the babysitter take the kiddos for a very.long.walk.to.the.park while you lay in bed, eating cannoli and reading?

I was wrong. I did read you back then. I left a distressed but supportive comment. Go figure.

I don't like cats more than I don't like dogs.

I hope all is well soon.

it's all ok, the cat is fine and I actually did everything I humanly could for her, short of paying the vet four thousand dollars to surgically set her pelvis which was iffy results-wise anyway. I complained a lot but I took care of the cat AND the baby. I am just being ornery. Forgive me. My current work debate is making me crotchety-er than usual.

and everyone's ears are feeling much better, a day and a half into meds for all.

You never do anything but mistreat animals and write about it on the internet. Lazy woman. And you think you deserve a trim?

Let your kids abuse the animals, I say. Then you'll have more time to go to the salon.
